Having Heat Pump Issues? Check These Things First

When the seasons change we tend to get a lot of calls from home and business owners here in the Motley area telling us they are having issues with their split heat pump units. If your heat pump has been sitting idle for the past few months, it could be that you're having issues because of something as simple as dead batteries in your thermostat. Check these things on your homes system before calling us you could save some time and money.

Check your thermostat settings: Make sure your thermostat is "ON", is set to "COOL", and the desired room temperature is set lower than the current ambient temperature in summer, or "HEAT" and the desired room temperature is set higher than ambient temperature in winter.

Make sure your system has power: Check you circuit breaker panel to ensure that your heating system breaker is "ON".

Check your indoor furnace or air handler system switch: Make sure your "SYSTEM SWITCH" is set to "ON". This switch is typically a traditional toggle switch that may have a RED cover-plate.

Is your furnace or air handler air filter clean? Change your furnace filter and re-start your furnace.

Give it a few minutes after restoring power: If you thermostat or the system power was off, after turning the system on give it a few minutes; many heat systems have a time-delay function on start-up.

Is your outdoor coil dirty? If your system is blowing cool air, but not cooling as well as it should, check your outdoor unit to ensure there is nothing blocking airflow through the outdoor coil. PLEASE NOTE: Be very careful not to damage the fines on your outdoor coil and call us if you need help!

If you go through the checklist above and you are still having the same heat pump issues you probably need professional service. Give Dauer's a call right away and we can help sort out your heat pump repair issue right away.
